As the fall approaches, the Collegiate girls are anxiously at work planning recruitment. Courtney Lee and Priscila Driggs are the advisors and they need some help. These are the things they need:

1. Sponsorship forms! You can send them to 1558 Princeton Ave. SLC Utah 84105 by August 13th. Download them HERE by logging into MYDG.

2. 15 volunteers to help Chloee Drews with the recruitment workshop on Saturday, August 20th from 11:30 am-1 pm.
3. 8 people on Saturday, August 27th, to help with chip voting in the basement. 2-6:30pm.
4. 8 people on Monday, August 29th, also to help with chip voting. 3:00-8:00pm.
5. Dinner for the girls on Monday, August 29th, at 7:50pm. Appox 60 girls.

Hi everyone!

We are holding a quick gardening day this Saturday, June 25th, from 10 am - 2 pm

so that the house looks warm and welcoming come recruitment time.

We would love to have your help!

We will be planting flower pots and sprucing up the yard.

If you can come, please bring your gardening tools and gloves if you have them.

We’d love to have you for just an hour or two,

or even stop by to see the house if you haven’t been in awhile.

Welcome to the new DG's in Business section of the blog. Each month we willl highlight Delta Gamma Alumnae and their businesses, in hopes to raise awareness of what our amazing sisters are doing, and to give us all an opportunity to support one another. For our very first DG's in Business post, I am thrilled to be able to write about my dear friend and pledge sister Blaire Hayes, and her amazing business, Flight Boutique. Blaire was born and raised in Park City, Utah and attended Park City High. She initiated into Delta Gamma in 2001 at the University of Utah and was an active four year member. After graduating with a degree in Business, she headed to New York City where she worked as a fashion stylist for celebrites as well as magazines such as Vogue and W. In 2008, she moved back to Park City and began working on her life long dream of owning her own boutique with dear friend and fellow Park City native, Kristen Moss. Their dreams became a reality when their doors opened in November of 2009. "We decided to come back and open a store in Park City, first, because we love our hometown and have a lot of support here, and second because we felt there was a void that needed to be filled" says Hayes.

The racks at Flight are filled with a variety of beautiful styles from an array of designers including Elizabeth & James, LaRok and Cynthia Vincent on the first floor, and more moderately-priced items from designers like BB Dakota and Jack on the second floor. Upstairs has sale items and dressing rooms and everything is under $100, with most items priced around $35. Another awesome feature at their store is the beautiful graphic wall paper of white and black trees that was imported from Europe. It serves as a great backdrop to these stylish clothes. Next time you are in Park City, make sure to stop by and shop a bit at Flight Boutique. But know that they are always getting new clothes in so you won't see the same stuff each time, so stop by often. If you mention that you are a Delta Gamma in the month of March, you will receive a 15% discount!

Founders Day Date Change!

We have changed the date of Founders Day to April 2nd and will be held at the Delta Gamma house this year! The program will begin at 7 pm and we'll be opening up the house to any invited lady, member or no at 7:30 pm for a mocktail party celebrating Delta Gamma and our history. You are able to bring women family members, future potential new members and even curious friends! We'll be doing house tours, telling history, and doing all kinds of fun and exciting things. AND, our alumni will get to see all the changes made to the house over the years. The theme is "Journey Through the Years" and is $25 per ticket. We will have giveaway bags with items from DG's that have their own businesses, and we are doing a live auction for a few bigger items. Can't wait to see you all there!

Calling All DG Alum Business Owners!!!

Hi Ladies,
We know that there are many of you out there that own your own business, and we would like to give you the opportunity to let all your fellow alum know about it! There are two different opportunities that I want to tell you about:

1. We would like to start doing a monthly or bi-monthly spotlight an alum and their businesses. This is a great way for you to get the word out about your business, and for us to be able to be your customers! I am more likely to shop somewhere if I know that it benefits someone I know. So, if you are interested in being apart of this, please send me all of your company contact information, a brief bio of yourself, any pictures that you would like included, and a brief wrtie up about what your company is and the services or products it provides. Then we will post your information for at least 2 weeks on our blog and tout it on Facebook as well.

2. For Founder's Day, we are doing things a bit different this year, and it is going to be awesome!!! You will find out more about that in another email soon. But, for the event we are going to be giving out gift bags to all the ladies that attend...both alumnae and collegiates. We would like to include any giveaways that you or your company might be willing to include in these bags. Or you can provide coupons to be included in the bags as well. Either would be great .Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in and what you would like to provide for the gift bags. We are excited to get this started, and to learn all about what you wonderful ladies are doing! We would like to get this going next month if possible, so please send me your information soon.

Hi Ladies,

The collegiates will be holding their recruitment prep workshops August 18th-20th. They are in need of some volunteers to provide them lunch on Wednesday the 18th at 1:00 p.m. for about 60 ladies. Please let me know if you would be interested and available and I will get the address for you. Also, you will be reiumbursed for the cost of the lunch provided.

On Friday the 20th they will be conducting a mock recruitment at the DG house and would like our help. We will act as the potential new members so that they can practice their singing and conversations. They will need help from 5 - 8pm that evening. Once we are done helping them practice they have invited us to participate in a sisterhood activity. They are asking for at least 20 alum to come and help them, so please let me know if are able to help. It should be a lot of fun and a great way for us to help these ladies make this a great recruitment!

Thank you to all of the ladies who joined us for Founder's Day this year! It was a great event and we would like to thank Jacque Riehl and Riehl Events for donating their hard work & services for the event. We had an adorable Mad Hatter theme and a great turn out this year! My name is Brittany Glenn and I have spent the last couple of months volunteering in Tanzania. Since being here a couple of volunteers and I noticed the huge problem Tanzania has with street children. On assessing the problem, we worked hard and found a house for the kids and have been providing them with food, shelter, clothing and schooling. We hope to provide even more in the future as this program grows. Please read the below information and let me know if you are interested in donating, sponsoring a child or even coming to Tanzania and volunteering. Anything will help and be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

People around the world have shown great interest in the issue of street children in Tanzania. It is possible to use this support to provide these children with shelter, food, education, vocational training and an overall change of lifestyle. By addressing the issue of street children in Tanzania now, we can help these children to work towards a brighter future. Journey Nyumbani Street Children’s Centre was created to bring these changes to the community of Moshi, Tanzania.We are currently housing 14 children between the ages of 12 and 18 in our centre located in Shantytown, Kilimanjaro. The children were found in Moshi and its surrounding villages and have been living on the streets for up to 7 years. Some of these children may have an abusive family history, but most often the cause for homelessness is lack of means for financial support. Our short-term goals include mainly keeping the children safe and providing them with their basic needs.The long-term goals of Journey Nyumbani are to provide the chidlren with a proper education. We are currently providing home-schooling in the form of preparatory courses for their desired schools in January 2010. In addition, Journey Nyumbani hopes to involve the children in the appropriate vocational training to encourage an eventual self-sustaining financial situation. Art and music lessons are also provided to allow for a creative outlet as well as a potential source of income. Journey Nyumbani is a newly developed organization in need of financial help from abroad. If you are interested in making a contribution, it would be greatly appreciated.

It costs $20/month to feed one child. It costs $10/month to provide housing for one child. Would anyone like to be a sponsor?? The school term in Tanzania begins in January. We are trying to raise $100 for each child by the end of December 2009. Please let us know if you are interested in making a donation!

Race day registration is at 7:00 am and the run will begin at 8:00 am. We are hoping for a lot of exposure and participation from as many people as possible- our goal is 500 participants.

As in the past, all proceeds from the event will be used to increase awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers. The goals are to educate and improve the care of women diagnosed with gynecologic cancers and focus on innovative research in the field of gynecologic cancers.

Hello all fellow Alums!

We are getting geared up for the Founder's Brunch on March 7th at Market Street Grill in Cottonwood at 11am that day. However, we are in need of some help.

I am looking for people/companies to sponsor the day. With this sponsorship, we would take anything you would be willing to give, money or otherwise, for the day of the event. With that, your logo will be printed on all the stationary the day of, you are welcome to put something on the tables from your company, either little favors or otherwise the day of, and we will allow you to set up a table a the event promoting your company.

Any additional money we make on the day will be donated to the scholarship program being started for our local chapter, Beta Gamma at the University of Utah. These girls need our help to make it through these tough times and complete their education. It is our duty to support the fraternity the same way it has supported us for many years.

I know the economy is tough right now, but this is a really inexpensive way to get your name and company out to fellow DG's. I know if I have a choice, I do my business with a DG before someone else and I hope you do too! Also, keep in mind that whatever you donate is tax deductible as DG is a non profit organization and the additional monies will go to a scholarship fund.

Collumnae speaker event

Dear Alumnae:

We would like to invite you to the Delta Gamma house for a very special collumnae (collegiate and alumnae) event. We are honored to be hosting a speaking event with Maria Murnane. Maria is a 1991 alum from UC Berkeley (Gamma) who recently published a romantic comedy novel. It is entitled "Perfect on Paper," and it's about a single woman in San Francisco whose life is hardly perfect. Maria describes the target audience as any woman who has ever had a really bad date or realized halfway through the work day that her skirt is on backwards. I am sure we all fall into this category.

This engagement will be held on February 2nd from 5:30-6:45 @ the Delta Gamma house on 1373 E. 100 S. We have also been invited to have dinner with the collegiates beforehand @ 5:30. This is such an excellent opportunity to support a fellow Delta Gamma and to get to spend time with our fabulous collegiates. If you have any questions please contact me. My information is below. This holiday season the Delta Gamma alumnae group is going to help the United Way with their product drive for the neighbor-to-neigbor response program they have. It is a great opportunity for us to get our name out in the community and help out this holiday season. All the information is posted below about what items we are accepting. We also have a few drop off locations available for your convenience. All items must be dropped off by Dec. 6th. The effects of the economic crisis are all around us! United Way of Salt Lake is taking a proactive role in response to the serious challenges presented by the current economic crisis by coordinating donations of cash and products to distribute to our community's frontline nonprofit service providers. These increased resources will not only shore up those families and individuals who are struggling during this difficult time, but also create hope for a brighter future for us all. We are calling on individuals and organizations to get involved to help our neghbors from falling into further crisis.

Nonprofit organizations are in need of various products that support their mission, provide needed items for their clients, and reduce program costs.

Needed items:

Baby products - diapers, wet wipes, formula, baby food

Blankets - new and gently used

Clothing - new socks and underwear for children and adults

Food - canned food, foods high in protein (tuna fish, peanut butter, beans, canned fruits, vegetables, and soup)

Toilet paper

DG convention '08

Hey Ladies! This is Shellie Simpson (pledge class '03) and I recently attended the Delta Gamma convention in Palm Desert California. It was fabulous and I learned a lot of great information that I would like to pass onto you and share some pictures. Here are some of the main changes and great new things I learned while at convention:

1. EO has launched a new social networking site just for Delta Gammas. If you go to the Anchor's Online website (www.deltagamma.org) you can click on the MyDG link to set up your account. It is similar to facebook and MySpace but exclusively for Delta Gammas. We will be creating an alumnae group on the site to inform everyone of upcoming events, birthdays, dues, etc.

2. EO will now be invoicing you for your per capita dues. This way you can pay online or send a check to them. This DOES NOT include your local chapter dues, which will be made payable to your local chapter treasurer. This is a great new way to help our local chapter know who is paying and possibly connect with sisters that are paying their per capita dues but are not involved or aware of our local chapter.

3. EO will be holding the first ever Helen Dunbar Lucas Alumnae Academy in Columbus, Ohio next year (April 17-19). All alumnae are invited to attend and the Delta Gamma Foundation will pay for one alumnae delagate to attend.

4. Congratulations! We were a recipient of the Alumnae excellence award!!

I am so excited for these changes and our new alumnae board. We are working hard to make the '08-'09 alumnae year the best ever! I lok forward to seeing all of you in the year to come!!

I just saw on Alisa's blog that she is coming to SLC soon. I was thought I would check in to see if anyone has their summer trips planned yet. I know there are a ton of us that are "out-of towners" and I would love to see as many as I can. My 3 and I can come whenever so let us know of any times that would be better. The pool party at Chelsea's was so much fun, I would love to try to plan another playdate!

Founder's Day Update

Founder's Day will be on March 24, 2008. We had originally planned it for March 17, but found out while planning that the collegians will be on Spring Break. All the specific details are still in the planning stages. You should be receiving an invitation via mail in the next few weeks and I'll email everyone the specific details as well. If you don't receive the emails or mailings that we send out, please let me know by emailing me at ashleyandtommy@msn.com. If you have any comments or suggestions about Founder's Day - you can post a comment on at the end of this post. We would love to see as many women that came last year.

Here is our new blog. Sorry for the change, but the last blog site I tried to use was not as user friendly as this one. I promise it won't change again.

I've had a few ideas about the blog and one of them was to attach everyone's individual blogs on the sidebar. All of you who blog know what I'm talking about. So - if you have a blog and don't mind it appearing on this blog so people can connect with you - please just leave a comment here with your first name & maiden name , pledge year and blog address. This will help us to keep in contact with all of our 'sisters' out there that may no longer be living close to Utah anymore. I'll post my personal blog so that you can all see what I mean for those of you who think that I'm speaking French right now.

Here is our new blog to keep everyone close and up to date on what is going on with the SL Alumnae Chapter. My wish for this blog is to be an advantage to someone in one way or another. I would like to advertise the businesses that DGs own in this area, post events for our chapter & collegians as well, and also keep you updated on what our Foundation has been up to.
